Machwa: Celebrating summer sunsets

Our June supper club in celebration of summer sunsets - or Machwa as they say in Swahili - had all the right ingredients. The loveliest of guests, exquisite cocktails and Bao Buns from Chef Aldo with chicken cacciatore we will be dreaming about for years.

Fusion of passions

We dined, socialised and had a magical evening all in on an idyllic terrace as the sun set over London. Chef Aldo indulged us in an exquisite chef tasting menu of Italian Asian fusion. Our signature cocktails of Aperol Spritz, Gin & Tonic, margaritas and our new favourite nonalocholic Dark and Spicy mocktail donated by our friends at Caleno drinks.

Our guests bid on fabulous auction prizes from Art history lessons with Vincent and Frida, Chiswick Arts School, vintage cream tea, entry to Ham Polo Club and a gin experience at Portobello Road’s Ginstitute.

Supper clubs with a difference

Here at the Table, we do things a bit differently. We aren’t a professional restaurant and this isn’t your typical charity fundraiser. About a year ago, 10 friends came together over wine to raise money for women in Uganda. We wanted to enjoy nice food, good wine and contribute to improving the lives of women. And therein was born - the Table!

Just seven months ago, our £1,100 investment from our wine tasting in November was made to provide women in rural Uganda with access to contraception. With that small seed investment, SafeHands were able to mobilise other donors to support a full year project of £27,000. Read more about the impact of our initial investment here.

All proceeds from this event are investing in providing life-changing healthcare for women in internally displaced camps in Amhara, Ethiopia.
